Over the years, a number of books have been published focusing on filming locations. Some of them focus on a very specific area or topic, and others are much more general in what they cover. Either way, these books can be a great source of ideas of places to visit.
In this section, I’m going to feature books I’ve personally read. These aren’t meant to be an endorsement, but just to give you an idea of the types of books that are out there!
Szene Fur Szene
Andrea, who runs the wonderful FilmTourismus site and has a huge social media following, is now published! Her new book, Szene Fur Szene, features some of her best photographs from some of the most beloved movies and TV series. Currently, the book is only available in German, but if an English version is released, I’ll be sure to provide a link. For now, you can order the book here.

Starring The Plaza
This beautiful book depicts some of the many appearances of The Plaza Hotel in movies, TV shows, and even on stage. This iconic New York City hotel is perhaps most well known from Home Alone 2, but has actually been a favourite filming location for many years.

Ghostbusters: The Ultimate Visual History
This is a great book for any fans of Ghostbusters. It depicts the making of the movies, animated TV show, and even the toys. This book is filled with great photography from filming, including a lot of shots on the various locations.

On Location
Lisa Iannucci has put a great book together of locations across America. She has organized the book by state, so if you are taking a trip, you can easily look up some cool spots to visit. Definitely check this book out!

Making Friends in the UK
This book was released in England to celebrate Friends filming the episodes about Ross’s wedding in London. The book has some interesting info and tidbits and photos.
The book also features both the first draft script and the final filming scripts of the episode. The initial draft is interesting as it has a lot of scribbled notes from the writers. However the final script isn’t very exciting, especially if you are familiar with the episode, since you know the story.
Nonetheless, this is a cool collectors item that is hard to find, but does pop on up ebay.

Behind The Scenes: Lords of Dogtown
This awesome book features all sorts of photography and tidbits about Lords Of Dogtown, including info from the locations used for filming. Especially interesting is how they recreated the crumbling ruins of the Pacific Ocean Park pier.

Sitcom Style
If you ever wanted to know more about how set decorators choose styles to fit the theme of a show, this is the book for you. It’s a great find for fans of sitcoms and interior decorating.

WWE: Are We There Yet?
No one really spends much more time traveling than WWE Superstars. This book is a compilation of travel stories encountered by the Superstars. It doesn’t have much to do with filming, but any travel buffs may enjoy it. Beware, there are some adult oriented stories in the book.

Billy Elliot: Japanese Info Book
Every once in a while, you come across a book that was published in a different country. This is a cool and rare book about Billy Elliot, only published in Japan. Does this book have lots of info about the films locations? I don’t know! It’s all in Japanese. It might?!?!? It does have some cool photos though, and it’s a rare collectors item, so when it popped up on ebay, I grabbed it!
