As with most sitcoms, Will and Grace is filmed in Hollywood despite taking place in New York City. The first run of the show was filmed at CBS Radford, and the reboot was filmed at Universal Studios, both in the Hollywood area.
The show did use a couple locations in New York City as establishing shots on the series.
Will & Grace’s Apartment
For establishing shots of Will & Grace’s apartment building, producers selected a building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. This building is on Riverside Drive, with views of the Hudson River. The building is not very unique, and blends in to the neighbourhood.
The building is located near the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, located in Riverside Park.
Grace Adler Designs
Grace runs her own interior decorating business, with Karen as her receptionist. The building that depicts her office is located in the Nolita neighbourhood of Manhattan. It is known as the Puck Building and was built between 1885 and 1893. The building has a statue of Puck, a character from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and that’s how the building received it’s name.
If you’d like to learn more about how a sitcom is filmed, please read my article about attending a live taping of Will & Grace. I was able to attend a taping during the show’s 6th season, on my first trip to Hollywood.
