Calgary is the 5th biggest city in Canada, and has been home to a number of well known movies over the years. It is also a great city to visit, with a number of great attractions. It’s also a good launching point for some great destinations nearby.

On This Site…
Some of the productionss filmed in the area that I’ve visited include Ghostbusters Afterlife, Cool Runnings, Brokeback Mountain, and Heartland.
Don’t Miss…
The Calgary Zoo
The Calgary Zoo is one of the top rated zoos in Canada. It is part of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and participates in the Species Survival Plans, aimed to prevent species from extinction. The zoo has a number of different areas, and you’ll want to have good walking shoes.

Winsport Canada Olympic Park
Winsport operates Canada Olympic Park, which is a facility that hosted a number of events at the 1988 Winter Olympics. This includes ski jump and downhill skiing events, as well as the bobsled and luge competitions. The bobsled track was also used for filming of Cool Runnings. The facility now hosts a number of sports and activities that you can take part in.

The Hart House
Any wrestling fan is likely familiar with the Hart Family Dungeon, where Stu Hart trained some of the biggest names in wrestling, including his sons Bret and Owen Hart. The dungeon was actually the basement of the Hart House, where the family lived and trained. The house is no longer owned by the family, but it’s still worth a quick stop to see. You can view the house from both the front and back, including the plaque by the front entrance.

Drumheller
If you have time to head outside of the city, the town of Drumheller is a couple hours away, and known as the Dinosaur Capital of Canada. The town has a number of dinosaur-related tourist attractions, including some figures and murals around the main shopping area on 3 Ave.

Make sure to take a drive around the area as well to see the Alberta Badlands. Ghostbusters Afterlife features a number of scenes filmed in this beautiful and rugged landscape.

In addition, I highly recommend the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology, which is one of the most renowned dinosaur and fossil museums in the world.

Banff
If you are visiting the area, you’ll definitely want to allow a day or more to visit Banff, a ski resort town in the Canadian Rockies. The town of Banff is a great area with a wide variety of shops and restaurants to explore.

If you want an iconic place to stay, look no further than the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. This historic resort opened in 1888 and has long been an symbol of luxury within the Rockies. It has hosted countless events, including weddings, conferences, and visits by world leaders and royalty.

This area is surrounded by Banff National Park, with plenty of areas for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and visiting hot springs. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for some wildlife as well.

How To Get Around…
If you are staying in the city, the Calgary Transit system offers a series of bus and train routes to get around. There are taxi and ride-sharing options available, as well as shuttle options to get to Banff.
If you plan to visit any areas outside the city, I highly recommend renting a car. This will give you the option to explore on your own schedule and get to areas not serviced by any transit options.
