Candy Cane Lane is a 2023 Christmas comedy about a father who ends up in a contractual dispute with a mischievous elf. The movie stars Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross and was released by Amazon MGM Studios.
The movie takes place in El Segundo, California. However the movie was primarily filmed at Universal Studios Hollywood.
The Carver House
Chris Carver and his family reside in a house along Candy Cane Lane, a suburban street where all the houses compete for the best holiday decorations. In the movie, a TV station and some sponsors get involved in the contest, and offer a $100,000 prize. This inspires everyone on the street to go all-out and try and win the contest. Chris, newly unemployed, is particularly desperate to win this money.
If the neighbourhood look familiar, it should. It’s the Colonial Street at Universal Studios Hollywood. It’s been featured in many other TV shows and movies over the years. The street is perhaps most famously know as Wisteria Lane from Desperate Housewives. The street also has houses from Leave It To Beaver, The Burbs, Erin and Aaron, and The Munsters.
The Carver house in particular is about halfway down the street. The house was also used as Mike Delfino’s house on Desperate Housewives. The house and front yard were covered in decorations for the filming of the movie.

Bruce’s House
Across the street from the Carver’s is their neighbour Bruce. Bruce win’s the Christmas Decorating contest every year. The house is right across the street from the Carver’s house. In Desperate Housewives, the home belonged to Lynette and Tom Scavo.

Several other houses along the street are seen in the movie as well. All of them get decorated with various themes for the contest.

If you wish to see these houses, you can visit the Universal Studios Theme Park in Hollywood. The theme park offers a tram tour with visits the studio backlot, which often visits the Colonial Street. They also offer a VIP tour if you’d like to get a more in depth look at the working studio and the backlot. Keep in mind that there is no guarantee you will visit Colonial Street, as it may be closed for filming.
