The 2024 reboot of Matlock has a very unique premise. This series features Kathy Bates as Madeline Kingston, a former lawyer who gets a job at a law firm so she can investigate their role in the death of her daughter. She calls herself Matty Matlock, acknowledging the existence of the original series within the universe.
While Matlock takes place in New York City, the pilot episode was filmed in Toronto. Once the series was picked up, production moved to Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
The Office Building
As mentioned above, the pilot episode was filmed in Toronto. The production team used the Price Waterhouse Cooper Building at 18 York Street. A number of shots inside and outside were filmed for the first episode, including the main lobby. Once the show was picked up for a full season, the production moved to Hollywood. However shots of the PWC Building are still used as establishing shots.

Paramount Studios
After the show was picked up for a full season, the production moved to Paramount Studios in Hollywood. This historic studio opened in 1926, and has been home to many famous movies and TV shows over the years. Matlock uses Stages 8 and 9 for it’s interior shots.

In addition to interior shots filmed on soundstages, the show has also used the extensive backlot at Paramount Studios. These backlots house everything from office buildings, schools, houses and storefronts.

If you are interested, Paramount Studios offers public tours, allowing you to visit the studio and it’s backlot. Paramount has a lengthy history dating over 100 years. You can find details of their tour options here.
