NCIS: Los Angeles is a spinoff from the original NCIS series. It follows the stories of the Office of Special Projects, an undercover division of NCIS based in Los Angeles. The show stars LL Cool J, Chris O’Donnell, Daniela Ruah, Eric Christian Olsen, and Linda Hunt.
Similar to Law and Order, it would be impossible to identify and list all the spots around Los Angeles that the show films at. Since the show debuted in 2009, they’ve filmed in countless locations. However I will share a couple locations I’ve visited that would be of particular interest to fans of the show.
NCIS Headquarters
While much of the show is filmed on location, the NCIS headquarters are filmed on soundstages 8 and 9 at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood. Directly outside the soundstage is the set of the entrance to the building. We often see Sam Hanna parking his car here and going into the building.
Paramount offers tours to the public, which I highly recommend. The tours visit much of the historic lot including both the frontlot and the backlot. Mention to the guide that you are a fan of NCIS LA and they will try to point out this area during the tour.
The NCIS Boatshed
While the interior of the boatshed is filmed on the Paramount soundstage, we have occasionally seen the exterior. Many episodes also include satellite shots of the boatshed and the surrounding area. The boatshed is located in Marina Del Rey, close to Venice Beach. There is a shopping area next to the boatshed called Fisherman’s Village, if you want to check out the building. Please keep in mind the actual boatshed is a private business in the marina, so please respect their privacy.
