The Burbs is an upcoming television series based on the 1989 movie starring Tom Hanks. This series will star Keke Palmer and is a Peacock Exclusive.
Like the movie, this television series was filmed on the Colonial Street backlot at Universal Studios in Hollywood. This street of house facades has been seen in numerous other productions. These include Desperate Housewives, Leave It To Beaver, and Erin & Aaron.
The Burbs takes place in the town of Hinkley Hills. The quiet cul-de-sac of Ashfield Place is a typical suburban neighbourhood with a dark secret.
Samira’s House
Keke Palmer plays Samira, who moves into a new neighbourhood with her husband Rob, played by Jack Whitehall. Their house is one of the more recognizable houses on the street. It was built for the 1997 Leave It To Beaver movie, and was a replica of the original house from the series. It was also the home of Mary Alice Young on Desperate Housewives.

Gary’s House
Gary lives across the street from Samira. His rundown house raises Samira’s suspicions, and the plot revolves around what may or may not be happening in the house.
It’s rather fitting that the production team chose this particular house to be the creepy setting. It was actually the mansion belonging to The Munsters in the 1964 sitcom.

Other Houses
The Colonial Street area of Universal’s backlot has a number of other houses. We can expect most to pop up on The Burbs. We’ll also see various shots of the street itself in the show.

If you’d like to see the houses in person, you can visit Universal Studios Hollywood. The regular theme park entrance includes the tram tour, which is a one-hour drive around the studios. The tram holds hundreds of people and you can’t get off to explore.
If you’d like a closer look at the various backlot sets, they also offer a VIP tour. It offers a small group tour on a mini-bus, and actually stops and lets you walk around. In addition to the extended tour of the studios, it also includes front-of-the-line access to all rides and a gourmet lunch.
