Saturday Night is an upcoming move, set to be released in October 11, 2024. It chronicles the premiere episode of Saturday Night Live, including all the drama, conflict, and hard work to bring the episode to life. The movie was original known as SNL 1975, but was changed to Saturday Night. That was the original name of the series, before changing to Saturday Night Live in 1977.
The movie will star Gabriel LaBelle as Lorne Michaels, and the ensemble cast will portray the original Not-Ready-For-Primetime Players, including Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin, and John Belushi. It was written and produced by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, the team behind Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Studio 8H
Since the story centres around the first episode, the majority of scenes take place in and around Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center. This studio has been the home to SNL since it debuted in 1975. As the movie wasn’t sanctioned by NBC, the production didn’t film in the actual studio. Instead, they recreated it at a film studio in the Atlanta area.
Rockefeller Center
For exterior shots in and around the studio, the production did film these scenes at Rockefeller Center. The large collection of buildings house offices, shops, restaurants, and the well known Radio City Music Hall. The main building is known as 30 Rockefeller Plaza, or 30 Rock for short. The tower rises 850 feet, and has a large observation deck known as Top of the Rock.

30 Rock is also home to NBC’s New York studios. Many of NBC’s most historic shows have filmed here over the years. In addition to Saturday Night Live,tThe studio is still home to many productions. This includes The Tonight Show, Late Night, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and NBC News and MSNBC Studios.
Saturday Night filmed a number of scenes outside of 30 Rock, including under some of the NBC Studios marquees. We also see Rockefeller Plaza where the skating rink and famous Christmas Tree stands each winter. The tree won’t be seen in the movie, however, as it takes place in October.

If you wish to see the studios up close, you can take the NBC Studio Tour, which visits a number of the facilities in the building. You can also attend a TV taping, although many of the shows are very hard to get tickets to. If you’d like to read about my experience attending Saturday Night Live, you can check it out here.
