Grey’s Anatomy debuted on ABC in 2005 and is one of TV’s longest running dramas. Interior shots for the series are filmed in Prospect Studios in Los Angeles. Considering the complexities in filming a medical drama, there is no way this could be filmed on location. That being said, several exterior locations are used for filming and can be visited.
Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital
One location that is used regularly is the exterior of the Hospital. These scenes are filmed at Sepulveda Veteran’s Medical Center, in North Hills, California. This working medical facility is used for exterior shots of the Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital.
There is one interior location used at the hospital for Grey’s Anatomy. This is the catwalk in front of the large windows. This scenic catwalk is mainly used for establishing and background shots. It has however been featured prominently in several episodes.
This is a working medical facility, so if you are going to visit, be respectful of the operations, as well as privacy of the patients. Also be aware of parking restrictions.
Seattle
As the show takes place in Seattle, the show regularly uses shots of the skyline and the Space Needle for establishing shots. These have appeared throughout the series.
