The Ellen Degeneres Show is one of television’s most popular daytime talk shows. It features guest interviews, games, and comedy segments. Ellen Degeneres began hosting the show in 2003 from NBC Studios (now Burbank Studios) and moved to Warner Bros. Studios in the 6th season. The show films on Soundstages 1, 2, and 3, known as The Ellen Stage.
The Main Studio
The studio consists of several areas. Ellen conducts most of her show from the stage set up with chairs and a table.
Just to the left is the area where Ellen comes out to do her monologue. This area is also used for musical guests and many of the games played on the show. The walls behind the stage can open to allow easy access for set pieces and equipment.
A little further left is the DJ booth where the various DJs have performed. While the show has featured a number of DJs, Twitch has been on the show since 2014. He is now a producer as well.
Facing the stage is the audience seating area. This large area of bleachers can hold several hundred audience members, who are often shown and featuring on the show.
The Riff Raff Room
The lobby area is the area where the audience gathers and waits before entering the studio. This room is set up with seating and a booth to buy souvenirs from the show.
Like most TV shows, there are generally more tickets distributed than seats available. TV shows hate to have empty seats, so this is done in case people don’t show up. Many shows simply send the unsuccessful audience members home. However the Ellen Degeneres Show allows those people to remain and watch the show from the lobby on TV screens set up throughout the room. Tom Hank’s loving gave the name of “The Riff Raff Room” to this area. Despite not being in the studio to watch the taping in person, Ellen has often shown the Riff Raff Room during the show. She even includes it’s members in some of the games. This area also has a VIP green room.
The Ellen Degeneres Show has always been one of the hardest tickets to get in Hollywood, and will be even more difficult in the last few months.
