After the hugely successful Star Trek: The Next Generation ended, Paramount announced Star Trek: Voyager as a follow-up. This spin-off would be used to launch the new UPN Television Network, and would also be the first series to feature a female Captain.
The producers originally cast Geneviève Bujold as the lead, but after just several days of filming, she left the role due to the demanding schedule. Producers brought in another frontrunner for the role, Kate Mulgrew, who became Captain Kathryn Janeway.
Paramount Studios
With The Next Generation finished filming on the movie Generations, stages 8 and 9 at Paramount became the home to Star Trek: Voyager.

In the episode “Scorpion Part II”, a couple scenes were filmed in front of the Paramount Administrative Building.

The series used the New York backlot area on Paramount Studios lot several times, including the episode “11:59”. You can visit the Paramount on one of their studio tours.

Vasquez Rocks
Vasquez Rocks has long been a favourite filming location for the Star Trek franchise. The unique rock formations near Santa Clarita have appeared in The Original Series, and numerous series and movies since then. In Voyager, it appears in the episode “Initiations”.

Santa Monica Pier
In the episodes “Future’s End Parts I and II”, the Voyager crew travels back to present-day Los Angeles. Several scenes were filmed at the Santa Monica Pier.

Warner Bros. Studios
In the fourth season episode “Nemesis”, Voyager filmed at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank. They used the Jungle area of the backlot. The Jungle was again used in the seventh season episode “Flesh and Blood”.
This area has appeared in many popular productions like Jurassic Park, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, and The Waltons. Warner Bros offers a variety of tours to the public, which often visit the Jungle area.

Leo Carrillo Beach
In the seventh season, Voyager used Leo Carrillo Beach to film scenes for the episode “Inside Man”. This same Malibu location was previously used in Deep Space Nine.
