The Charmings was a quirky sitcom that debuted in 1987 on ABC. It told the story of Snow White and Prince Charming, who are transported to modern-day Burbank. The Charmings and their two kids have to adjust to life in the 80s. The cast also features Snow White’s Wicked Step-Mother, her magic mirror, and Luther, one of the dwarfs.
The show’s first season was only 6 episodes, but performed decently enough to be renewed for a 2nd season. The shows ratings sank when it was up against the Cosby Show. It ended up getting canceled before the 2nd season could wrap. One episode went unaired.
Despite it’s short run, the Charmings has developed a cult following, despite never having a home video or DVD release. A few episodes have popped up on Youtube over the years. The full series is also available for streaming on the CTV app in Canada.
As is typical with sitcoms, the series was filmed entirely on a soundstage in Hollywood. However a local house was chosen for establishing shots. The house is located in Los Angeles and fits the theme of the show well, with it’s medieval design.
